Big Toast makes up one third of undersung rap powerhouse, TPS Fam alongside Jack Diggs and The Strange Neighbour. These lads have been smashing festival to club night and back again for years and, as well as putting out a couple of huge group LP’s, they're not doing too bad on the solo work rate either. This latest offering comes with the Revorg imprint and this label, if its not already, should be one to keep an eye on. They put out straight up, no fucking around, classic records. Wordplay named them one of the top ten labels to watch in 2015 and if you don't know why by now, then I guarantee you will by the end of the year. This is Big Toast’s first solo long player and came to conception just after TPS dropped their (Wordplay album of the year nominee) sophomore release ‘Hot Water Music’. Around this time Big Toast proposed to his lady but, weddings are expensive, so he thought a good way to raise funds would be to make an album, obviously. T’s chosen a bag of top notch producers like Sam Zircon, Downstroke, Ill Move Sporadic, 2Late and 184 as well as drawing from his TPS compadres, Jack Diggs & The Strange Neighbor’s, button bashing prowess. So it’s safe to say the level of production is high throughout and, after seeing the production effort on paper and listening back, I was immeasurably impressed with the way the huge variance in styles compliments Toasts lyrical content each time as he drifts from subject matter like Tory tosspot wine sipping chiefs to actually getting the funds up for his big day in his own laid back, strangely lovable ‘fuck off and buy me a beer’ style. A personal favourite would have to be the outright trashing of modern boozers in ‘Shit Pub’ featuring some long time affiliates Luca Brazi & Oliver Sudden who also provides the flute heavy head nodding instrumental used. Although this project is teeming with infectious hooks, another stand out has to be the BadHabitz produced cult smash hit ‘Fuck Off Tarquin’ which features guest vocalisation from The Strange Neighbour & Jack Diggs as well as Split Prophets very own Dat Kid. This one is an absolute anthem with a flashy music video you can check too. On the whole then, this is one for the heads. The people who know good rap music when they hear it and when you get to hear this, you’ll know it’s undoubtedly one for the regular rotation. Keep your eyes on them Revorg boys..........
